About Me
My name is Ashley Farmer and I’m 23 years old. I’m currently working on a business degree with the University of Phoenix, but what I really want to become is a designer and indie dyer. I learned to knit by a fluke or change of pace in my life in the summer of 2009. I simply wanted handknit socks and the rest is history! I love a good challenge, so now I knit socks, fair isle, and lace. I love alpaca the most, but a good squishy merino attracts me just as well!
As a designer I hope to become published, but for now I’m just trying to figure out all the kinks involved. It’s interesting how much work is put into every detail in each design. My passion is lace and socks, so that’s what I hope to expand on.
As a dyer, I mostly dye for fun. One day, my goal is to be able to sell what I dye. I also hope to sell handknits in the very near future. My dream is to successfully own my own business. Of course, my husband and I already joke that one day I will probably own my own local yarn store.
As a spinner, I have taken to spindles quite well. I love the magic that comes from having a piece of wool transform into something that can be knit. I don’t think I’ll ever become very serious about spinning, even though I already have a huge fiber addiction!
I’ve been married since October 13, 2007 and my family is my life! My son was born in summer of ’08 and he’s a blessing to me. My whole world really revolves around him. I suspect that one day he’ll at least be interested in knitting. He’s already stealing my yarn! I found out about a year ago that my health was going downhill and I am still unsure what it is. The doctors suspect IBS, however, regardless of what it is, it’s so severe I don’t think I’ll be able to hold down a job until it becomes manageable. I suffer from depression (possibly bipolar), anxiety, and a little obsessive compulsive disorder. So far, they seem manageable, but I do have major mood swings from day to day. Knitting and creating are what keep me sane every day.
Last but not least, I’m a Christian. I love God with every fiber of my being! He is what inspires me to create, as his creations are the most beautiful…
So without further ado, I introduce to you a blog that is mostly about knitting, but a lot about life, too.
